How to jump start your jobsearch

First of all,let’s all be clear, looking for a job is in itself a full-time job. You need to view this as another project, and in my previous life i owned a Company called – THE CAREER MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME , all this Company did was teach people how to look for work, in a structured and methodical way, whether it be through agencies like Ambientjobs, job boards, networking, cold calling, or advertising yourselves, in fact any way which could arm you to compete in a very tough environment. So i thought i would cover just a few bullet points to push you on your way as you start your new job, what job? your Jobsearch of course.

  1. YOUR JOBSEARCH IS A FULL MARKETING CAMPAIGN
    Make sure that you have all of the tools necessary to do the job. Fine-tune your marketing materials, including your C.V the most powerful tool you have in your bag and make sure this is clear and concise, and is designed to show your best attributes, in as few words as possible, remember this is your strongest sales tool, do not get it wrong.
    To accompany this your cover letter should be short and sharp, bullet points are good, showing off your skill set to the full. In addition your social media profile must be equally as good and all should be consistent.
  2. SOCIAL MEDIA GOOD OR EVIL
    Use of Social Media definitely sets you apart. Surveys carried out in 2012 and early 2013 showed that 76 % of Recruiters said they would us social media in their recruitment campaigns. Therefore you must be visible, so update your social profiles, and keep a close eye on messages, pictures and general activity.
  3. PROFESSIONAL NETWORKING AND BUSINESS CARDS
    A good 80% of jobs are unadvertised, and come via Agencies. So make sure you get out there and Network, spread yourself around, professional networking is critical in your JOBSEARCH, and a must are professionally designed business cards, remember you are selling a product — YOU !!!!
  4. BLOGGING – USE IT AS A STRONG TOOL FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND MARKETING
    Blogging is a strong vehicle to demonstrate any subject matter, market yourself for future and current opportunities. Your blog is your living and dynamic example of who you really are, a live CV in other words.
  5. BUILD A STRONG COMMUNITY AND STRONG RELATIONSHIPS AND NETWORKS
    Always be selling and marketing yourselves, never stop, you never know when a rainy day will come. Your community, networks, reputation, and relationships are vital to your current and future growth, nurture them, and respect them.
